Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a storage device for storing the outline of a working area by moving a self-traveling vehicle along the periphery of the working area to allow the vehicle to recognize the moving locus of the vehicle itself, i.e. the outline of the working area. CONSTITUTION:Only the newest value of position calculating results is temporarily stored during the straight advance of the self-traveling vehicle 1, and at the time of judging that the vehicle is shifted from the extension of a conventional moving course based upon the calculated result, the temporarily stored value is determined as a direction turning position and stored. Thus, the vehicle 1 can recognize the outline of the working area 22 at the time of circulating the working area only once by storing the position calculating result of the vehicle 1 at a curve point. Since the movement of the vehicle 1 which is practically traveling on a complex locus is stored as an approximately polygonal shape and the position of the vehicle 1 on a straight advance part is not stored, the number of position detecting data to be stored can be suppressed to a minimum value.
