Abstract:
A process for the preparation of cis-dihydronopol and its esters is described. Corresponding esters of (-)-nopol are hydrogenated stereoselectively by heterogeneous hydrogenation in the presence of a platinum or platinum oxide catalyst or of a ruthenium/carbon catalyst and the cis-dihydronopyl esters obtained are, if desired, converted into the corresponding alcohol.
