Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of repeating one-to-one communication by providing a multi-address bit indicating a multi-address packet to a packet and, when the multi-address packet is detected at a preliminary selection network, sending the multi-address packet only to a main selection network as a survived packet, and then, outputting the multi-address packet from the main selection network through all output ports. CONSTITUTION:A packet switching network 50 performs switching operations to input packets accumulated in packet buffers 510-517 and outputs the input packets from output ports 520-527. A multi-address bit BC which indicates whether a packet is a multi-address packet or not is provided to the first packet to be sent to a preliminary selection network 51 and the second packet to be sent to a main selection network 55 and, when the bit BC of the first packet sent to the network 51 indicates a multi-address packet, the network 51 sends the survivor report of the first packet to the packet buffer which has sent the first packet and, upon receiving the survivor report, the packet buffer sends the second packet, the bit BC which indicates a multi-address packet, to the network 55. The main selection network 55 outputs the second packet to all the output ports.
