Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound emitting light having a color different from that of a conventional organic compound for EL element, contributing to the multiplication of the color of EL element, emitting bluish green light having high intensity and useful e.g. as a display of OA instrument, etc., by using a specific zinc complex as the light-emitting material. CONSTITUTION: This organic compound to be used as the light-emitting material for EL element is 2-(o-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole zinc complex of the formula I. The complex is preferably produced e.g. by dissolving 2-(o-hydroxyphenyl) benzothiazole of formula II in a solvent such as methanol, adding a zinc acetate solution thereto and stirring the mixture at a prescribed temperature for a prescribed period.
