Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form alumina whiskers by applying carbon-containing thermosetting resin to an aluminum-containing ferritic stainless steel alloy material before processes for making the material flat or wavy. CONSTITUTION:After rolling process of an aluminum-containing ferritic stainless steel alloy material, rubber-modified phenolic resin such as carbon-containing thermosetting resin is applied to the material. After dried, a flat sheet and a wavy sheet of the resulting material are superposed and rolled up many times to give a prescribed shape and the resulting molding is fixed. The molding is heated in an oxidative atmosphere to produce oxide composites of mainly alumina in shape like largely undulating whiskers on the support surface. In this way, filming out is surely prevented.
