Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable homogenizing with a quenching coagulation method for the application of high capacity to an electrode and the restraining of self- discharge, increase energy density and improve storage characteristics by forming a negative electrode used for a metal-hydrogen alkaline battery using elements shown by a specific formula. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen occlusion alloy manufactured with a quenching coagulation method and expressed by the composition formula of AxBy is used, where A stands for a rare earth element and B generally stands for Ni and Co. when y=5 in the formula, the value of (x) is taken as 1.0<=x<=2. In the composition formula AxBy, Ni and Co as the main elements of 8 are partly displaceable with other elements and these elements are at least one of elements selected among Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Al, Si, In, Sn, Ga and Ge. Also, A is a rare earth element including La, and the contained amount of La is within 10 to 18wt.% for the total amount of all rare earth elements. The alloy so made is crushed to a grain size equal to or less than 50mum and 10wt.% of polytetrafluoroethylene as a binding agent is added thereto for application to a current collector.
