Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for optical material, adhesive, paint, etc., in high yield at a low cost by hydrolyzing a thiuronium salt with an alkali and acidifying the reaction liquid. CONSTITUTION:A thiuronium salt of formula I (X is halogen) is hydrolyzed with an alkali metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide at >=80 deg.C. The objective compound can be produced by acidifying the reaction liquid to pH3-6 with an aqueous solution of a mineral acid. The starting compound of formula I is a new compound, which can be produced by reacting 2,5-bis(halomethyl)-1,4-dithiane with thiourea in an alcohol solvent at >=50 deg.C for >=1hr. The compound of formula II especially a polymer produced by the addition polymerization with an iso(thio)cyanate has high refractive index, low dispersion and excellent optical properties and is suitable for lens, prism, fiber, optical disk base, filter, etc.
