Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the optical waveguide connection optical fiber which can obtain the mode field diameter conforming to the mode field diameter of an optical waveguide without executing special minute working, and also, can reduce a loss caused by an end face reflection. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber is constituted so that by doping a dopant from an end face of an optical fiber 10, a refractive index n1 of a core 11 of the optical fiber 10 has the same or approximate value as a refractive index of an optical waveguide in its end face, and becomes gradually the refractive index n1 of the optical fiber 10 before doping as it separates from the end face concerned. Also, this optical fiber is constituted so that by doping the dopant from the end face of the optical fiber, the mode field diameter of the optical fiber has the same or approximate value as the mode field diameter of the optical waveguide in its end face, and becomes gradually the mode field diameter of the optical fiber before doping as it separates from the end face.
