Abstract:
PURPOSE:To compress data while depending upon the appearance probability of a section number in a JIS graphic/character code table by allowing the code of an unappeared character to correspond to a control code at the rate of 1 to 1 when the number of unappeared characters becomes equal to the number of control codes to be used for coding the unappeared characters. CONSTITUTION:When the whole data are converted into a 2-byte characters by an exclusive encoding device 2, the data can be converted in each character unit. When a section number having high appearance efficiency is improved by a general encoding device 3 so as to be expressed by short bits, the compression ratio of Japanese data can be improved. If improvement for converting specfic codes for encoding unappeared characters into the codes of the unappeared characters is executed when the number of unappeared character codes becomes equal to the number of control codes to be used for encoding the unappeared characters, improvement for converting specific codes for encoding the unappeared characters into the codes of the unappeared characters is executed, large data in which almost all, character codes appear, can also be reduced by a method for previously allocating codes to all character codes without reducing their compression ratio.
