Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic matter decomposing unit using a photocatalyst, being thin, and having a wide area. SOLUTION: A light guide 3 made from an acrylic resin and allowing incidence of ultraviolet hays from an ultraviolet ray source 5 is provided. A light scattering groove 9 is formed on one side of the light guide 3, and a photocatalyst-containing layer 12 is formed on the other side via a precoating layer 11. The precoating layer 11 is made from a material that is not decomposed by a photocatalyst. The photocatalyst-containing layer 12 contains particles of a titanium oxide as the photocatalyst in a binder made of the same material as the precoating layer 11. By the action of the photocatalyst in the photocatalyst-containing layer 12 exposed to the ultraviolet ray, organic matter on the photocatalyst-containing layer 12 or organic matter in air contacted with the photocatalyst-containing layer 12 is decomposed.
