Abstract:
Appts. has a segmented presser (100) with independently linearly movable presser elements (113,114,115) stacked in a side by side parallel array. Each element has an independent elastic material layer (121) on its periphery, for compacting a fibre tow. The elements co-operate to prevent fibres from the tow penetrating between the elements. In one aspect each element is rotatable. In another aspect at least one of the elements (113) is stationary.
