Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered compact for a high hardness tool having high toughness and excellent wear resistance by using binder particles having a high N concn. in the surface layers and a high C concn. in the central layers and contg. a specified percentage of Al in a sintered compact for a high hardness tool having a specified compsn. contg. cubic BN. CONSTITUTION:A sintered compact for a high hardness tool is composed of 40-70vol.% cubic BN and a binder for the BN. The binder consists of particles contg. at least Ti, C and N. The surface layers of the particles have a higher N concn. than the central layers, the central layers have a higher C concn. than the surface layers and 10-20vol.% Al and/or Al compd. is incorporated into the binder. The objective sintered compact for a high hardness tool excellent in toughness and wear resistance is produced.
