Abstract:
A discharge tube 10 is comprised of a glass bulb 12, a cathode 14, and an anode 16. The cathode 14 consists of a cathode tip portion 22 of a bullet shape made by impregnating porous tungsten with barium, and a cylindrical lead rod 24 of molybdenum having a recess 24a. A part of a base 22b of the cathode tip portion 22 is placed in the recess 24a of the lead rod 24 and a clearance between the internal surface of the recess 24a of the lead rod 24 and the side face of the insert part of the cathode tip portion 22 is sealed with a molybdenum-ruthenium brazing filler metal 26.
