Abstract:
A process for separating viscoplastic materials such as plastics and rubber (I) from materials which tear or disintegrate under mechanical stress, especially paper (II), in which the mixture of (I) and (II) is subjected to high radial, axial and tangential acceleration to give a fraction (A) consisting of disintegrated fibre material (II) and a fraction (B) consisting mainly of un-disintegrated plastic (I). Also claimed is an apparatus for this process, comprising a cylindrical or preferably polygonal strainer basket (1) with holes (2) through which the disintegrated fibre material (II) can pass, and containing a coaxial rotating drive shaft (3) fitted with blades (4) which are preferably rigidly attached to the shaft.
