Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new 2-nitroimidazole derivative useful as an antiprotozoal, especially one against Trypanosoma cruzi, having high antiprotozoal effect and high safety. CONSTITUTION:A 2-nitroimidazol-1-yl-N-propargylacetamide of formula I. The compound is obtained by condensing 2-nitroimidazole of formula 2 with a halogenoacetic acid of a lower alcohol of formula 3 (R is lower alkyl; X is halogen) in the presence of an alkali and reacting the prepared compound of formula 4 with propargylamine of formula 5. The dose of the compound is usually preferably 30-3,000mg per adult daily in the case of oral administration and 10-2,000mg in the case of parenteral administration.
