Abstract:
An energy absorber (3) consisting of a combination of rubber and metal is located between the railway vehicles (A,B). The coupling comprises a toroidal piece (1) with a cylindrical bore (4) in its centre, connected to one vehicle (A), with a truncated surface in its lower part and cylindrical in its upper part. These define first (1A) and second (1B) external cylindrical surfaces,. A support piece (9) connected to the other vehicle (B) has, in its upper part, an internal cylindrical base plate (9A) enveloping the upper part of the toroidal piece. A cylindrical pivot (17) fixed on the base plate is engaged in the cylindrical bore. A toroidal articulation part (13) fixed on the base plate ensures articulation between the base plate and the toroidal piece. The energy absorber is located between the external cylindrical surface of the toroidal piece and the surface (20B) of the vehicle. Shear bolts (22) hold the support piece to means of longitudinal translation (23) fixed to the support arm (24) connected to the vehicle (B).
