To enhance the driving performance of a hybrid vehicle which is an electrically driven four-wheel-drive car wherein a motor directly receives the output of a generator and is thereby driven.
The output of the generator is controlled so that the generator torque is kept within a range in which the vehicle does not go into a stall. A drive device for hybrid vehicle comprises a second generator 2 which is rotationally driven by an engine 1 which rotationally drives either of front and rear wheels 14 and 15, the motor 5 which directly receives the output of the second generator 2 and is thereby rotationally driven to rotationally drive the other of the front and rear wheels 14 and 15, and a four-wheel-drive controller 6 which controls the rotational driving of the second generator 2 and the motor 5. If the engine 1 is overloaded, the output of the second generator 2 is limited by the four-wheel-drive controller 6.
