To provide a monitoring system acquiring image data taken by a nearby street camera or security camera on the basis of position information from a position detector held by a child, an elderly person or other target person.
This monitoring system can transmit/receive data between a camera server and position information detector via a network. The system comprises a camera position information storing means storing camera position information, a position information receiving means receiving target person position information from the position information detector, a condition determining means comparing an image data acquisition condition and the target person position information and determining whether or not image data should be acquired from the camera server, a camera selecting means selecting a camera having the camera position information near the target person position information from the camera position information storing means, and an image data acquiring means acquiring the image data of the selected camera from the camera server.
