Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve responsiveness of an engine to the opening change of a control valve, to improve combustion of air-fuel mixture in a cylinder, and to compact an intake system and reduce the weight thereof. SOLUTION: In a serial multi-cylinder engine 1, a rotary type tumble control valve 16 to control the opening area of an intake passage 10 is arranged at a cylinder head 9. Since the tumble control valve 16 is arranged in the vicinity of the intake valve 12 of the cylinder head 9, the volume of an intake route between the tumble control valve 16 and the intake valve 12 is suppressed to a low value and an intake amount and responsiveness of an engine speed to the opening change of the tumble control valve 16 are enhanced. Further, the tumble control valve 16 exercises an influence directly on a flow of intake air (air-fuel mixture flowing in a cylinder, a tumble flow of tumble is generated in the cylinder, and combustion of air-fuel mixture in the cylinder is improved. Further, by arranging the tumble control valve 16 at the cylinder head 9, an intake system is compacted and the weight thereof is reduced.
