Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester suppressing generation of stains on a mold in molding process useful as material for blow molded article, sheet and oriented film excellent in transparency, heat resistance, mechanical properties, low in residual unpleasant taste, offensive smell by treating the polyester with water after polycondensation in chip states. SOLUTION: The objective polyester has increasing amount of cyclic trimer of <=0.3 wt.% after melting at 290 deg.C for 60 minutes and nitrogen content <=3 ppm. The polyester is preferably obtained by treating the polymer chip with water after polycondensation, mainly using an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester formable derivative and ethylene glycol as raw material and a Germanium compound and/or a Titanium compound as a catalyst. A linear polyester including >=95 mol.% of the ethylene terephthalate as the principal repeating unit is preferred as the polyester.
