Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the capability for recognizing the word concerning to a place, e.g. the name of a place. SOLUTION: Words concerning a to places, e.g. the names of places, are stored in a map data memory section 24. A navigation ECU12 sets a part of stored words as words to be recognized. A voice recognition unit 14 performs voice recognition by comparing a word inputted by a user with the words to be recognized. Recognition results are delivered to the navigation ECU12 and used for navigation processing. The navigation ECU12 determines the advancing direction of a vehicle, the type of road where the vehicle is located, and the scale of a map presented on a display 18. A word to be recognized is then set based on these elements. According to the arrangement, words having high possibility of input can be set as the words to be recognized.
