To provide a document OCR which can easily obtain a binary display image, a binary output image, etc., of a plane, optionally selected from a full- color image in a document read, with simple constitution.
A controller 11 refers to a document read definition body (plane selection table) stored in a document definition body storage device 14 for each read field of the read full-color image and uses a plane for display image generation defined in the plane selection table to display a picture of a binary image on a display device 16 from the full-color image. Further, the controller uses a plane for output image generation defined in the plane selection table to generate a binary output image from the full-color image and then store it in an output image storage device 15.
