Abstract:

To perform good stratified combustion by forming suitable stratified air fuel mixture in a combustion chamber of a cylinder direct injection type internal combustion engine.

A center axis 11a of fuel spray from a fuel injection valve arranged at a roughly central part of an upper surface of the combustion chamber is inclined in relation to a center axis of a piston 4. At a piston position in a fuel injection timing range for forming stratified air fuel mixture mainly in an outside cavity 14, the outside cavity is arranged to make a center point 14a of the outside cavity 14 on a piston crown surface aligned with a spray center axis from the fuel injection valve 11. At a piston position in a fuel injection timing range for forming stratified air fuel mixture mainly in an inside cavity 15, the inside cavity is arranged to make a center point 15a of the inside cavity 15 on the piston crown surface aligned with a spray center axis 11a.
