To increase a seizure resistance of a contact portion of a roller with a cam, in a cam follower having the roller in contact with the cam.

In this cam follower 2 having the roller 5 rotatably fitted onto a pivot shaft 4 installed across a pair of side walls 3a and 3b of a body 3, grooves 7 are provided in the outer peripheral surface of the roller 5 at several circumferential points parallel with a rotating shaft axis O. By this, when the grooves 7 of the roller 5 are passed through the contact area thereof with the cam 1 according the rotation of the roller 5, a wedge type oil film is formed and a dynamic pressure is generated between the grooves 7 and the cam 1. Accordingly, the roller 5 and the cam 1 are easily maintained in the state of mixed lubrication without coming into solid contact with each other. As a result, an excellent lubricating action is performed between the cam 1 and the roller 5.
