Abstract:
To restore a medium polluted with a hydrophobic pollutant at a low cost with reduced energy.
A plant of the genus pumpkin specifically high in the absorption and transfer capacity with respect to the hydrophobic pollutant is cultured on a polluted medium due to the hydrophobic pollutant to transfer the hydrophobic pollutant into the plant of the genus pumpkin from the polluted medium by absorption. The hydrophobic pollutant accumulated in the plant of the genus pumpkin is removed from the medium by reaping or digging-up after the growth of the plant over a predetermined period. The reaped or digged-up plant of the genus pumpkin is composted to be incinerated at a high temperature of 850°C or higher.
