To surely realize self-repair of a picture element in an organic EL panel.
In an organic panel having the picture element 50. which is provided with an organic layer 30 containing a luminescent layer 33 between a lower electrode 20 and an upper electrode 40, a reverse bias voltage of not more than the withstand voltage of the organic layer 30 under a voltage application condition in use is applied to the picture element. Preferably, a reverse bias voltage of not more than 1/2 of the withstand voltage of the organic layer 30 is applied to it. Therefore, the value of the reverse bias voltage for self-repair can be moderately determined with the withstand voltage of the organic layer under the voltage application condition in use as an index, and a defective part in the picture element 50 can be repaired by itself.
