To reduce inquiry time when an unused data is large in order to transfer only data used in a subsequent process from a database operation server to a front-end server, in a parallel database system.
This database management method comprises a server serving as a front end for an inquiry to a database, and a plurality of database operation servers each playing a role for executing operation for the database; and the front-end server is connected to the database operation servers via an network. In a retrieval inquiry executed in advance, only positional information of data is sent from the database operation server to the front-end server. The positional information is sent for a succeeding inquiry via a variable. The succeeding inquiry extracts sub-data by the sent positional information and dictionary information of the position of each sub-data in the data.
