A page description language rendering section 120 generates attribute information, indicating attributes of image data and of each pixel of the image data, on the basis of data for printing. A color image coding unit 103 applies irreversible compression processing to the generated image data, and an attribute flag data coding unit 102 applies reversible compression processing to the generated attribute information, and the image data and attribute information are stored in a hard disk 105, respectively. In the decoding processing, a color image decoding unit 108 and an attribute flag data decoding unit 107 decode the image data and the attribute data which are stored, respectively. A printer unit 110 controls gradation correction to each pixel of the decoded image data, on the basis of the decoded attribute information.
