To solve the problem with poor operability that functions required by a user are needed to be transmitted to a learning remote controller and set one by one, a procedure of specifying the functions required by the user is complicated and what functions are provided in the equipment of an opposite side can not be easily recognized or the like in a conventional remote control system.

In a remote control system for transmitting and receiving signals bidirectionally between a remote controller and equipment to be controlled, the equipment to be controlled is provided with a function display preparation means for preparing the list of the functions provided in the equipment to be controlled corresponding to an operation instruction from the remote controller, a display means for displaying the prepared list, a selection means for selecting the functions required by the user from the displayed list, and a remote control code transmission means for transmitting the remote control codes of the selected functions to the remote controller altogether. The remote controller is provided with an operation instruction transmission means for transmitting the operation instruction to the equipment to be controlled, a remote control code reception means for receiving the remote control codes transmitted from the equipment to be controlled and a storage means for storing the remote control codes.
