To provide a portable terminal device which can secure the time needed for charging ending and can generate a message, etc., that urges a user to charge a battery if a charger for charging exists at that place and to provide its charging method.

A portable telephone set 2 is provided with a function for receiving from the charger a radio wave showing the existence of the charger at that place in addition to the battery 23, a charging circuit 22 for charging the battery 23, a transmitting and receiving part 26, a display part 27 and a normal configuration by a control part 25 that operates according to a program. In addition, the control part 25 is provided with a function for displaying a message for a charging request on the display part 27 when it is determined on the basis of a signal receiving time of a signal received from the charger that the user comes home in a usual time period of his coming home, when it is confirmed that the charger exists at the place, and in addition, when it is determined that the residual quantity of a secondary battery 23 will be insufficient by the time when the user goes to work on the next day.
