To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber by which hydrogen molecules can be added into a core as much as possible.
(1) The method for manufacturing an aluminum coated fiber comprises coating a bare optical fiber with molten aluminum or aluminum alloy under an atmosphere comprising hydrogen and an inert gas, and then solidifying the aluminum or the aluminum alloy. (2) The method for manufacturing the aluminum coated fiber comprises coating the bare optical fiber with molten aluminum or aluminum alloy while bubbling hydrogen and then solidifying the aluminum or the aluminum alloy. (3) Or, the method for manufacturing the aluminum coated fiber comprises coating the bare optical fiber with molten aluminum or aluminum alloy, then solidifying the aluminum or the aluminum alloy, and after solidifying, keeping the coated fiber at a temperature of 300-600°C.
