PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibacterial and mildewproofing agent having mildewproofing effect hardly attainable by inorganic agents in addition to the persistent and thermally stable effect which is an advantage of inorganic agents. SOLUTION: The antibacterial and mildewproofing agent is composed of a double oxide of boron and alkaline earth metal expressed by chemical formula aMO.bB2O3 (M is an alkaline earth metal; and a/b is 0.5-3), MO or B2O3 or a mixture of two or more of the above compounds.
