To provide a transmission apparatus in a VDSL (Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line) transmission system which more reliably executes the handshake transmission/reception.
The transmission apparatus in the VDSL transmission system divides a specified frequency band into one or a plurality of exclusive bands in the up-transmission direction and one or a plurality of exclusive bands in the down-transmission direction, transmits data using a plurality of tones involved respectively in the divided up- and down-bands, respectively. In the transmission start, the apparatus executes the handshake for exchanging information about transmission condition settings with a transmission apparatus of a transmission party, using one or a plurality of tones in the up-transmission direction and one or a plurality of tones in the down-transmission direction. The frequencies of tones used for the handshake are involved near a multiple of an upper limit frequency used in the other transmission system, and/or at least one of them is involved in each of a plurality of up- and down-bands.
