To manufacture an edgewise wound coil the insulation coating of which becomes to have the same coating thickness on the outer and inner peripheral sides of the coil.
The edgewise wound coil is manufactured by winding a flat insulated electric wire 10a which is obtained by forming the insulation coating 2 around a flat conductor 1 having a flat square cross section in a state where the coating thickness of the coating 2 may change from one end side to the other end side of the flat square cross section of the conductor 1 so that the end face of the flat square cross section coated with the thicker portion of the coating 2 may come to the outer peripheral side of the coil. Consequently, the insulation coating 2 can be prevented from becoming thinner in thickness and being deteriorated in insulation performance on the outer peripheral side of the coil as compared with the inner peripheral side of the coil.
