To provide a method for continuously producing an aromatic carbonate in high energy efficiency without using a complicated process.
This method for producing the aromatic carbonate comprises, in a method for producing an alkylaryl carbonate and/or a diaryl carbonate by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with an aromatic hydroxy compound, using a reactor constituted of a liquid-phase part divided into two or more sections and a vapor-phase part divided into two or more independent sections in which adjacent sections are connected by a lower part partition making the liquid-phase part into a closed section and by an upper part partition making the vapor-phase part into a closed section, sequentially circulating the liquid phase from the head section to the tail section and carrying out a transesterification reaction while continuously extracting the vapor phase composed of a light fraction containing an aliphatic alcohol as a by-product from the top of each section.
