Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surfactant containing no phenylether group such as nonylphenyl group which are believed to be adversely influential on the environment, and having almost equal performance to that of a reactive surfactant containing phenylether group. SOLUTION: The surfactant is expressed by general by formula (1). In formula (1), R<1> represents a branched aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a secondary aliphatic hydrocarbon group or a branched aliphatic acyl group, each of AO and AO' represents a 2-4C oxyalkylene group, L represents a group expressed by general formula (2), (z) is a number from 1 to 10, X represents hydrogen atom or an ionic hydrophilic group, (m) is a number from 0 to 1,000 and (n) is a number from 0 to 1,000. In formula (2), each of R<2> and R<3> represents hydrogen atom or methyl group, (x) is a number from 0 to 12, and (y) is a number of 0 or 1. The surfactant is used to prepare an emulsifier for emulsion polymerization, a dispersant for suspension polymerization and a resin modifying agent.
