There is provided a help item table in which values indicating the degree of relation between functions and help information are stored. When a help button is pressed, a control section reads from the help item table a value indicating the degree of relation of the help information corresponding to a function currently selected, and reads a value indicating the degree of relation of the help information corresponding to a function previously selected by the user. Then, the value indicating the degree of relation of the help information corresponding to the function currently selected and the value indicating the degree of relation of the help information corresponding to the function previously selected by the user are added for each help information. Based on the result of the addition, the help information to be displayed is determined and displayed. The help information to be displayed is accurately determined through an overall judgment based on the current and past operations.
