To suppress high temperature degradation of a catalyst after re-start by reflecting a condition of the catalyst caused by operation history to control in a vehicle starting and restarting an internal combustion engine.
A clutch is disengaged and the engine is immediately stopped by OT avoidance stop control if catalyst temperature is a predetermined value or more and catalyst passing gas quantity is less than a predetermined value. OT avoidance flag is set in such a case. At a time of restart, oxygen quantity in exhaust gas is reduced (S150) if the OT avoidance flag is set (S130) at a time of restart. Since unburned composition or the like in a catalytic converter is considered under a condition to easily make the catalyst overheat if the engine is stopped by OT avoidance stop control, high temperature degradation of the catalyst after restart can be suppressed by reducing oxygen quantity at a time of restart in such a case.
