Abstract:

To provide an optical recording medium capable of recording data at higher density than an optical disk exclusive for DVD reproduction, and medium identification information to secure a sufficient defocus margin by using the conventional medium identification information recoding device.

The optical recording medium has a main information area 21 having a metal reflection film formed on a substrate where pit rows are formed as main data, and a sub-information area 22 where medium identification information 23 for individually identifying the optical recording media is recorded, by partially removing the metal reflection film and forming a plurality of reflection film removed areas, and the metal reflection film is irradiated with an optical beam to reproduce information. The pit rows or guide grooves are formed on the substrate in the sub-information area, and the track pitch of the pit rows or the guide grooves is 0.24 to 0.45 μm.
