Abstract:

Water-soluble, nonionic cellulose ethers of the (hydroxy)alkyl cellulose groups with an average degree of polymerisation of less than 9000 and an average of 0.01-0.04 2-propenyl groups/anhydroglucose unit, are new. Also claimed are aqueous dispersions obtained by free radical polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in aqueous emulsion in the presence of 0.2-5.0 wt.% water-soluble, nonionic cellulose ethers with respect to monomers.
