To provide a video camera having automatic focusing function and an external video signal input function while advantages in cost are kept.

Since photographing optical system is not adopted, it is noted that an A/D converter used for position detection of a focus lens is not used during recording of an outer video signal. By switching an input signal to one A/D converter (2)112 for the time of external video signal recording mode and the time of photographing mode, an A/D converter for converting the video signal from outside into digital data, and an A/D converter for detecting the position of the focus lens are used in common so that an increase in number of expensive A/D converters, can be restricted.
