Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic particle powder for a magnetic recording medium which has excellent dispersibility and is excellent in durability and cleaning property of a magnetic head by stiffly fixing oxide fine particle powder on particle surfaces of the magnetic particle powder. SOLUTION: In compound magnetic particle powder, one kind or two or more kinds of oxide fine particle powder which is selected out of aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide, cerium oxide, titanium oxide, silicon oxide and molybdenum oxide and has a mean particle diameter of 0.001-0.07 μm, is fixed on particle surfaces of magnetic particle powder whose mean particle diameter is 0.01-0.3 μm by using silicon compound formed from tetraalkoxysilane. Ratio of the oxide fine particle powder to the magnetic particle powder is 0.1-20 wt.%.
