To provide an indoor unit for an air conditioner capable of improving air distribution efficiency and heat exchanging efficiency by reducing the air escaping into a room by constant effective short-circuit effect regardless of the amount of circulated air, besides comprising a movable front panel for opening and closing a front suction opening.
An indoor unit body 1 stores a heat exchanger 9 inside, and comprising the suction openings 3, 2 on its front and upper faces and a blowout opening 4 on its front lower portion, upper and lower horizontal louvers 7A, 7B are mounted on the blowout opening, the front panel 6 is openably and closeably supported on the front suction opening in a state that its lower portion 6a extends to a position covering a front face of the upper horizontal louver in a state of closing the front suction opening, and a control portion 8 implements the control by switching a fully-closing mode for closing the front suction opening by the front panel, a fully-open mode for positioning a lower end of the front panel on an upper portion with respect to an upper end of the blowout opening, and opening the front suction opening, and a half-open mode for moving the front panel to an intermediate position between the fully-open mode and the fully-closing mode to allow the lower portion to extend to the position covering the front face of the upper horizontal louver, and to allow the blown-out air flow to flow along a front surface and a rear surface of the front panel.
