To provide a battery discriminating method in which a primary battery is not charged, and also, even if the primary battery and a secondary battery are mixed, charging is not performed, and to provide a battery discriminating device.
When a battery A is the secondary battery, since an electrode on the minus side of the battery and a minus electrode are conducted, a voltage of the battery A is subtracted from a PVCC1 voltage, and is inputted to a battery discriminating circuit 6 via a battery discriminating terminal in a battery box 5. When the battery A is the primary battery, since the side of the battery is not conductive, a voltage is not supplied to the battery discriminating circuit 6 via the battery discriminating terminal in the battery box 5. As a result, a battery type is discriminated. To the battery B, a charging current control unit 4 is operated by a micro-computer 3, the battery A and the battery B are charged for a prescribed period of time, the secondary battery is recovered even if it is over-discharged, and a voltage of micro-computer input 1 is measured. Accordingly, the discrimination between the primary battery and the second battery can be surely performed by the individual battery A and battery B. A charging current is prevented from flowing to the primary battery.
