Abstract:
Production of diphenylmethane polyisocyanates involves (1) reacting aniline and formaldehyde in presence of HCl to give a mixture containing diphenylmethane polyamines, HCl, aniline and water; (2) distilling off the excess of aniline and water to give a product containing aniline at a maximum of 10 wt.% based on the polyamines and water and a maximum of 5 wt.% based on the polyamines; and (3) phosgenating the product.
