To provide an image display apparatus and an image display method capable of smoothly reproducing data without needing much time for reading the data.

An electronic camera includes a system controller 5 or the like that carries out the processings of: generating groups of image data existing within a prescribed range in a decreasing direction of a designated frame number and groups of image data existing within a prescribed range in an increasing direction of the designated frame number relative to the designated frame number; discriminating whether or not the designated frame number exists within a first area between a maximum frame number in a first reproduction list and a frame number smaller than by a prescribed number of frames from the maximum frame number when the designated frame number is increasingly updated or whether or not the designated frame number exists within a second area between a minimum frame number and a frame number greater than the minimum frame number by a prescribed number of frames when the designated frame number is decreasingly upgraded; and generating groups of image data with number of frames increased from the maximum frame number when the discrimination indicates existence of the designated frame number within the first area or generating groups of image data with number of frames decreased from the minimum frame number when the discrimination indicates existence of the designated frame number within the second area as a second reproduction list.
