To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine capable of smoothly switching the valve timing.
This invention provides the control device of the internal combustion engine having a variable valve timing mechanism for switching opening-closing of an intake valve of the internal combustion engine between the first opening-closing timing and the second opening-closing timing of delaying the timing of closing the intake valve more than the first opening-closing timing, and an EGR device having an EGR passage for communicating an exhaust system with an intake system in the internal combustion engine and an EGR valve for adjusting an EGR quantity. This device is constituted so as to switch to a second EGR quantity in the second opening-closing timing reduced more than a first EGR quantity from the first EGR quantity in the first opening-closing timing before a predetermined time when the variable valve timing mechanism switches to the second opening-closing timing from the first opening-closing timing.
