To provide a small and light fuel cell capable of surely performing sealing for every unit cell, thereby, capable of reducing the thickness and easily performing maintenance, and capable of free geometric design.
This fuel cell is provided with a plate-like solid polymer electrolyte 1, a cathode side electrode plate 2 arranged on one side of the solid polymer electrolyte 1, an anode side electrode plate 3 arranged on the other side, a cathode side metal plate 4 disposed on a surface of the cathode side electrode plate 2 and an anode side metal plate 5 disposed on a surface of the anode side electrode plate 3. An opening part 4c with an opening ratio of 7-30% is provided in an area where the cathode side electrode plate 2 contacts the cathode side metal plate 4 and peripheral edges of the metal plates 4, 5 on both sides are electrically insulated and mechanically sealed.
