Abstract:
This invention relate to a sintered ceramic heater, having a heat-generating resistor and a ceramic insulator embedding the resistor therein, wherein the resistor consists essentially of electrically conductive ceramic grains, secondary ceramic grains and a grain boundary phase having the general formula 2E2O3.Si2-xAlxN2-xO1+x, wherein E represents at least one element of rare earth metals and 0 < x < 2. This particular boundary phase having said general formula works as preventing an electrolysis in the resistor at high temperature under electrical potential applied across the resistor. The ceramic heater is useful for a glow plug for a diesel engine.
