To provide a method and an apparatus for volume reduction of sewage which can remarkably reduce the amount of generated surplus sludge, and can restrain consumption of chemicals by improving alkali treatment efficiency.
The method for volume reduction of sewage comprises a process for biologically treating the sewage, a process for performing the solid-liquid separation of the biologically treated sewage to obtain treated water and return sludge, a process for obtaining extracted sludge from a part of the return sludge, a process for biologically solubilizing and decomposing the extracted sludge under an anaerobic, anoxic, or microaerophilic condition, a process for further solubilizing the sludge, subjected the product to the solubilizing treatment with an alkali, and a process for returning the solubilized sludge to the biological treatment process.
